Blue Shrimp Tacos w/ Homemade Torillas

These shrimp tacos are a perfect combination of flavors, with the sweet and succulent Mexican blue shrimp complementing the creamy avocado, juicy tomatoes, crisp red peppers, and fresh cilantro and lime. The soft homemade tortillas add a nice touch of authenticity to this dish. This dish is perfect for a weeknight dinner or a casual get-together with friends and family.


  • 1 lb easy peel Mexican blue shrimp, peeled 
  • 1 avocado, diced
  • 2 tomatoes, diced
  • 1 red pepper, diced
  • 1 head of lettuce, shredded
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 2 limes, cut into wedges
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Corn tortillas

For the Tortillas:

  • 2 cups of masa harina
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups of warm water


  1. Start by making the tortillas, in a large bowl mix together the masa harina, salt, and warm water. Knead the dough until it becomes smooth and pliable. Cover the dough and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.

  2. Divide the dough into small balls and press them out into thin circles using a tortilla press or a rolling pin.

  3. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the tortillas for 1-2 minutes per side, or until they are soft and pliable.

  4. While the tortillas are cooking, season the shrimp with salt and pepper. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and cook the shrimp for 2-3 minutes, or until they are pink and cooked through.

  5. To assemble the tacos, place a few shrimp on each tortilla and top with diced avocado, tomatoes, red pepper, shredded lettuce, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime.
