Cooking Guide: LUXPACK™ Snow Crab Leg Meat

Note: Each LUXPACK™ package contains 1lb of snow crab leg meat. You can begin preparing right away or store in the freezer for a later date. All of our snow crab leg meat can be kept frozen for up to a year after delivery.

Our LUXPACK™ Snow Crab Leg Meat is best served simply. Gently warmed in our exclusive Chesapeake Bay Butter and seasoned with our signature Crab Blend Seasoning is the best way to enjoy it.

Thawing:

For quick and convenient thawing you can submerge your LUXPACK under cold water in a clean sink or tray for approximately 10 minutes, or until fully thawed. You can also use a slow thawing approach by refrigerating the crab meat for 6 to 24 hours.

Draining Liquid:

Once thawed, carefully cut the top off the package and discard the liquid in the package by draining it into the sink. This salt water liquid brine is used to protect and preserve the quality and flavor of the meat.

Drying:

Using a paper towel, gently but firmly dry the meat to remove any excess water without damaging it.

Taste Test:

The crab should be ready for warming. However, since preferences for salt levels vary, we recommend tasting the crab to ensure it's seasoned to your liking. If it tastes too salty, you can move on to the next step.

Rinse and Dry:

Briefly rinse the crab meat under cold running water for 20 seconds. Use a plate, bowl, or strainer deep enough to hold the meat. Drain any remaining liquid from the plate or bowl after rinsing. Using a paper towel, gently but firmly dry the meat to remove any excess water without damaging it.

Taste Test:

We recommend tasting the crab meat to ensure the salt level is to your liking. If the crab is too salty, proceed to the ‘Optional Soak’ step.

Optional Soak:

Soak the crab meat in cold water for 1-3 minutes.

  •     For less than a pound, soak for 1 minute.
  •     For one pound, soak for 2 minutes.
  •     For more than a pound, soak for 3 minutes.

Drain or remove the crab meat from the water and pat it dry thoroughly with a paper towel.

Cooking Instructions:

Make sure the above thawing and rinsing instructions are completed before warming the crab meat.

Warming Instructions:

In a pan, heat 4 tablespoons (¼ block) of our Chesapeake Bay Butter or unsalted-butter of your choice over medium heat. Once the butter fully melts, reduce the heat to a low simmer and add one pound of your thawed Snow Crab Leg Meat, ensuring it's evenly spaced in the butter.  Sprinkle 2 teaspoons of our Crab Blend Seasoning evenly over the crab, adjusting the amount to taste.

Gently warm the crab through, making sure not to overcook it, as it can become tough. This should take about 5-10 minutes. Use a spoon to baste the warm butter over the crab, ensuring each piece is thoroughly covered in butter and seasoning.

Serve the crab directly from the pan or transfer to a serving dish. Accompany with lemon wedges, clarified butter and/or cocktail sauce for dipping. Adding chopped chives to your butter is also a great addition.

Storage and Consumption:

Keep the thawed or cooked crab meat refrigerated at 40°F (4°C) and consume it within 2-3 days.

You can also enjoy the crab meat cold and in a wide variety of recipes such as warm crab roll sandwiches, crab cakes, crab fried rice, crab mac and cheese, crab dip, crab toast, crab rangoons, crab quiche, crab grilled cheese, crab stuffed mushrooms, crab quesadillas, crab pizza, crab stuffed shrimp, and many more.
