Cooking Guide: LUXPACK™ Snow Crab Leg Meat

Note: Each package we sell contains 1lb of snow crab leg meat. A sizable serving size is 4oz.

Ingredients: Snow Crab and salt (contains crustacean).

Our Snow Crab Leg Meat is best served simply. Gently warming and serving in a bath of melted butter is the best way to enjoy it.

Thawing our Snow Crab Meat according to our specific directions is the best way to ensure it has the perfect flavor and texture.

Thawing:

  1. Place the packaged snow crab leg meat in a bowl or dish and refrigerate, allowing it to thaw slowly for 12-24 hours.
  2. For faster thawing, place the packaged snow crab meat in a large bowl and fill it with cold water, ensuring the package is fully submerged. Change the water every 15 minutes until the meat is thawed.

Draining Liquid:

  1. Once thawed, carefully cut the top off the package and discard the liquid by draining it into the sink. This liquid is the lightly salted brine used to protect and preserve the quality of the meat.

Rinse and Dry:

  1. Briefly rinse the crab meat under cold running water for 30 seconds. Use a plate, bowl, or strainer deep enough to hold the meat.
  2. Drain any remaining liquid from the plate or bowl after rinsing.
  3. Using paper towel, gently but firmly dry the meat to remove any excess water without damaging it.

Taste Test:

  1. The crab should be ready for warming, but we recommend tasting it to ensure the salt level is to your liking.
  2. If the crab is too salty, proceed to the next step.

Optional Soak:

  1. Soak the crab meat in cold water for 1-3 minutes:
    • For less than a pound, soak for 1 minute.
    • For one pound, soak for 2 minutes.
    • For more than a pound, soak for 3 minutes.
  2. Drain or remove the crab meat from the water and pat it dry thoroughly with a paper towel.

Storage and Consumption:

  1. Keep the thawed crab meat refrigerated at 40°F (4°C) and consume it within 2-3 days for the best quality.

Cooking Instructions:

Make sure the above thawing and rinsing instructions are completed before warming the crab meat.

 Warming Instructions:

  1. In a pan, heat 2-4 tablespoons of our Chesapeake Bay Butter or unsalted-butter of your choice over medium heat.
  2. Once the butter is melted, bring the heat to low.
  3. Add 1lb of thawed and rinsed snow crab leg meat, ensuring it's evenly spaced in the butter. Gently warm the crab through, taking care not to overcook it, as it can become tough. Use a spoon to baste the warm butter over the crab, ensuring each piece is thoroughly covered.
  4. Serve the crab directly from the pan or transfer to a serving dish.
  5. Accompany with lemon wedges, cocktail sauce and/or clarified butter for dipping. Adding chopped chives to your butter is also a great addition.
Note: You can double the amount of butter to cook additional crab.

You can also enjoy the crab meat in a wide variety of recipes such as crab roll sandwiches, crab cakes, crab fried rice, crab mac and cheese, crab dip, crab toast, crab rangoons, crab quiche, crab grilled cheese, crab stuffed mushrooms, crab quesadillas, crab pizza, crab stuffed shrimp, and many more.
